Sibert Smackdown 2023!Melissa Stewart, author of many amazing nonfiction books, shares about the Sibert Smackdown each year. The Sibert Smackdown is for the Sibert Award for informational texts. In the Brewster Library, the 2nd graders and I read amazing nonfiction texts, talk about back matter, illustrations and more and then, after we read as many as we are able, we vote. It is always so hard to choose. I use Melissa Stewart's list and we get great ideas for books to add to the Brewster Library that may not have been on any of my lists. |
Mock CaldecottThe Caldecott Medal is one of the most famous of all of the ALA awards. The kindergarteners and I have fun reading amazing books and examining the illustrations. Like the Sibert Award, we get a chance to read books we may not have heard of before. There are many Mock Caldecott lists out there, but I love Mr. Schu's. We were super excited that Tiny Dino, written by local author Deborah Freedman, was our runner up! |
