Wednesday, January 23 there was fun happening at Korn School! Close to 150 students (out of 200 - can you believe it?) signed up to come to 2 parties, one for each grade level. I was prepared: fake mustaches for all - I found tattoo mustaches that go on your finger so you can hold your finger up under your nose and "wear" your mustache. A little tricky to put them on that many students, but I had some wonderful helpers! I had also spent the few days prior baking a ton of mustache sugar cookies. Each student got a little goodie bag with their cookie and mustache.
So at 12:15 they began streaming in to the art room. They sat down, ate their cookies, got tattooed and we began to read some of Fake Mustache aloud. Of course I had to pick the part in the beginning where they talk about the librarians as ninjas. I did my best ninja noises too. And then Skype began to ring and Mr. Angleberger arrived! He shared bits about writing the book and where some of his ideas came from. He had lots of funny things to tell the kids. Loved it!!! Then, at 12:45, we did it all over again with grade 3.
The next morning, two lucky students, one from each grade level, won a copy of Fake Mustache. 2 very happy kids.
All in all, a hugely successful party! It was a ton of fun and there is truly nothing better than having 75 fourth graders sitting absolutely silently on the floor of the art room, during their RECESS TIME, listening to a book being read aloud.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!
